Whenever I feel lazy, lethargic, I start remembering AMMA’s teachings, she doesn’t like waste of time, she says that fully living in the present brings a bright future. I try to watch my mind and instruct it to be alert, calm and quiet.

This question comes at the perfect time for me, cos for the last two weeks I have been really really lazy. i don’t even do yoga. or any spiritual practices which i usually do…
aumsree Says:someone asked me why you stopped everything for now. I said: i don’t need to do it now because AMMA is here in Amritapuri. If i end up in some trouble i can just run to Her; She is right there to solve it…
But when AMMA was on Europe tour, I needed to do some Spiritual practices to be at peace. So Now i am lazy… may be till Amma goes for her tours again…

Being lazy, or ‘LAZINESS’ is mainly due to despair and unwilling to let go of the happenings around. There are many psychological reasons, which cause desperation due to failures and fears.
Krishnalila Says:According to Patanjali Yoga, one of the worst sins is to be lazy. Spiritual masters recommend to try to be careful not to allow laziness to creep in even for a fraction of second. They advice all spiritual aspirants to keep the mind active through Japa, meditation on the Form etc…
Walking JAPA, Walking Meditation , Singing Devotional Songs and Dancing, Entertaining thoughts of AMMA, Reading the Spiritual books during leisure hours can of great help to drag us out this evil called “LAZINESS.”

When I am at home I am lazy. Anywhere else I am the opposite!! Like when Amma comes here, I sign up for almost every seva I can, and usually wind up doing more then I signed up for!! Amma has helped me start to overcome this habit in the last few weeks! I don’t have to conciously stop myself from being lazy. Something in my mind says “You idiot, when Amma was your age she never wasted a moment being idle. If you want to realize God like She did, the you’d better get a move on!!!”
priya Says:That usually stops me from being lazy!!!!

Thinking that there is still a whole life ahead of me to do things, i feel lazy sometimes. but Amma taught me, for getting rid of the sins of past lives through sadhana, even this one whole life is not sufficient. life is fragile like a dewdrop. hence, i remember this and remove the laziness.

It’s only when I realize that nothing will happen, that there will be no progress unless I actually get up and do something, that I overcome my laziness and procrastination. But it’s a constant challenge to do this. Time after time, I’ve been faced with situations that require effort to work through, but the Tamasic qualities take over. One might think that only through the Grace of God will situations change - but Grace only comes if we put forth effort.

It’s when I’m bored, have nothing to do and you feel nothing will happen. It’s the farthest from spirituality. Some how it just happens, an answer I don’t have yet.

I think this is an apt question for me since I have been very lazy lately. I don’t see a point sometimes in all the frenetic activity around. There seems to a lack of inspiration to get into action. I’ve been disillusioned by people and am trying to find my center and what it is I want to do rather than be urged by others desires. I think I got pushed into activity in the past without true awareness of myself and that is currently causing me to slow down to a large extent.

Whenever I become lazy I will be thinking like I will do it tomorrow, forgetting AMMA’s words that only this moment is in our hand. I pray to AMMA to remove my laziness

Laziness, I beleive, is a state of mind resulting from a lack of interest in the action, a feeling that we are worked out for the day and need some rest, a matter of priority of the task - ‘if it can wait, why not do it tomorrow’… it also results from a lack of motivation and an uncertaininty in the results of the action…
ana Says:When I feel lazy, I motivate myself - I say to myself that “If I can accomplish this by this time, I will treat treat myself to something that I like and enjoy”

I get lazy when I feel overwhelmed and helpless with problems. Then I remember how hard Amma is working tirelessely. It’s almost as if I hear a voice telling me: ‘There’s no point in sitting sad. Make better use of time by finishing something.’

When one feels lazy during a slow part of the day and a call comes from a friend with something “fun or cool” to do, how do we suddenly lose the “lazy” feeling and instantly feel “energised”?
g_navlakha Says:The answer is the mind’s identification with the body. There is no mystery to this. Instead of accepting the “lazy” feeling; feel and SEE your whole body energized and then go do some SEVA. Go mow the lawn, or weed the garden or clean the garage back home or while here in Amritapuri, march right to the SEVA desk in the temple and give yourself.

I think I feel lazy to do things that I don’t like, but never am I lazy to do things I like. It’s the mind that controls the enthusiasm and energy levels for any activity. Fighting laziness is hence equivalent to fighting our dislikes. Consciously trying to fight or surmount laziness is difficult for me. So I just try to make the mind stronger by practising IAM, chanting, etc in the hope that some day, slowly but surely I will be able to overcome my “selective laziness” … and of course, once in a while, Amma teaches me the hard way. Things will go topsy-turvy and I’ll be forced to stop being lazy and start putting in effort. That is Amma’s Grace acting. She is there to bring us on track constantly however hard we try to ward off Her pull and continue being lazy. For now, I admit I am just relying on this to help me overcome my laziness!

I feel lazy when I am forced to do something that I dont enjoy doing… Finally when I realise that no one else is going to do these things for me, I do it at the last minute and quite often I feel relaxed after doing… and I thank Amma for making me do what I am supposed to do…

Lazy because of increase or decrease of waste inside our body, it will disturb our mind and avoid doing things at right time. Amma suggests the right way by taking UPAVAS or FAST once a week, ending it with a coconut drink.
